Exploring the mysterious legend of the Great Wall

By     No comments:
The Great Wall is considered the symbol of the Chinese nation and culture. Many stories and legends about this enigmatic work have formed in the process of building and handed down through many dynasties. These legends have attracted many tourists to visit the world's longest wall.

Lady Meng Jiang find husband
This Great Wall story happened during the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC). One spring, Meng sowed a seed of bottle gourd in his yard. The bottle gourd grew up bit by bit and its vines climbed over the wall and entered his neighbor Jiang's yard. Like Meng, Jiang had no children and so he became very fond of the plant. He watered and took care of the plant. With tender care of both men, the plant grew bigger and bigger and gave a beautiful bottle gourd in autumn. Jiang plucked it off the vine, and the two old men decided to cut the gourd and divide it by half. To their surprise when they cut the gourd a pretty and lovely girl was lying inside! They felt happy to have a child and both loved her very much, so they decided to bring the child up together. They named the girl Meng Jiangnu, which means Meng and Jiang's daughter.

As time went by, the little girl grew up and became a beautiful young woman. She was very smart and industrious. She took care of old Meng and Jiang's families, washing the clothes and doing the house work. People knew that Meng Jiangnu was a good girl and liked her very much. One day while playing in the yard, she saw a young man hiding in the garden. She called out to her parents, and the young man came out.

At that time, Emperor Qin Shihuang (the first emperor of Qin) announced to build the Great Wall. So lots of men were caught by the federal officials. Fan Qiliang was an intellectual man and very afraid of being caught, so he went to Meng's house to hide from the officials. Meng and Jiang liked this good-looking, honest, and good-mannered young man. They decided to wed their daughter to him. The two young people accepted happily, and got married several days later. However, three days after their marriage, officials suddenly broke in and took Fan Qiliang away to build the wall in the north of China. Qi Liang, husband of Lady Meng Jiang, was forced to construct Great Wall. At winter, she knit for her husband a shirt and fined him to give it.

She sewed warm clothes for her husband and decided to set off to look for him. Saying farewell to her parents, she packed her luggage and started her long journey. She climbed over mountains and went through the rivers. She walked day and night, slipping and falling many times, but finally she reached the foot of the Great Wall at the present Shanhaiguan Pass

Lady Meng Jiang traveled along the length of the Great Wall, asked many people and finally knew the bad news of her husband that he dead under the Great Wall. She wept bitterly 3 days and 3 nights, tears mixed with blood. Her cry is sonorous 800 miles of Great Wall, collapsing of a part of the Wall revealing her husband's corpse. After finished the funeral for her husband jumped into the sea to commit suicide. Today, at Shanhai County, Hebei Province have shrines Lady Meng Jiang. This story has been told in books, folk songs and traditional plays. Almost Chinese people know this story.

Jiayu Pass
Jiayu Pass was built in 1372 under the supervision of Feng Sheng, a founding general of the Ming Dynasty. The legend of Jiayu Pass telling about a man named Yi Kaizhan in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), he was very good at arithmetic, he was very good at arithmetic. He calculated that they would need 99,999 bricks to build the Jiayu Pass. The manager did not believe him and said that if he miscalculated even one brick, workers would have to labor for three years.

When completed the gate, a brick was remnant and the manager was very excited, ready to punish them. However, Kaizhan said that this brick is placed there by the arrangement of gods, just a little shifting will make the wall fall down; the manager did not believe and took it away, the wall had collapsed and must to rebuild. After rebuilding, another brick was left alone; and today it is still in the tower of Jiayuguan. Another version tell that Yi Kaizhan calculated exactly the number of bricks needed but added a brick according to the say of manager.

Covering an area of 40,100 square yards (33,529 square meters), Jiayuguan Pass of Great Wall has a complex and integrated defensive system: an inner city, the central area with many buildings, an outer city, and finally a moat. You can also find common military facilities such as arrow towers, turrets, and cannons along the wall.

Different from sections built with stone and gray bricks in other regions like Beijing and Hebei, packed earth was the major material used to construct the ramparts of Jiayu Pass, making yellow the dominant hue. This helps the pass blend harmoniously with the surrounding desert.

Jiayu Pass where legend told that used 99,999 bricks to build

Legend of Ly Son monument
This story took place during the Western Zhou (1122-711 BC). King Chu has a Queen called Bao Si, a nymph with heavenly beauty. King Zhou very favored her, but Sacks Self never smiled.

A functionary said that the burning of Ly Son may cause people to panic and make the queen to laugh. King Chu liked that idea. She smiled when she saw the vassals were tricked ( At that time, once the signal fire was ignited, it showed that other tribes attacked the city, and all the vassals around would come to help). Then, when the enemy invaded the Western Zhou, King Zhou burned monument to ask the help but no vassals came because they've been fooled once. The king had been killed by enemy soldiers and Western Zhou collapsed.

The Fortress Xifeng Kou
There is a fortress on the Great Wall originally named, the Xifeng Kou, or the Happy Meeting Fortress. There is story of how the name of the fortress came about

The Great Wall required soldiers to be on guard at the place all year round. That makes not only themselves but their families and their lovers also are sad. A young soldier had protected the northern territory of China along the Great Wall for many years without leave. The army prohibited anybody from leaving his duty. The young man had a father as his only family member. He only had a elderly father living alone at home.

The father was very old and was afraid that would never see his child. Therefore, he had come to the region of doing the task to meet his son, may be the last time. Coming to fortress, he accidentally saw his son. He also realized him, two people hugging, laughing and crying. Surprise is both died on this spot.  In order to remember the loving father and son, the fortress where they met was named Xifeng Kou. They represent thousands of soldiers and their families.

Yellow Flower City
About 60 km north of downtown Beijing, a Great Wall section is named Huang Hua Cheng, the reason is that that during summer, the countryside around Huanghuacheng Great Wall is swathed in yellow, as masses of wild flowers come into bloom. It is almost 11 kilometers long and joins with Mutianyu Great Wall in the east, and JuyongguanPass and Badaling in the west.

Huang Hua Cheng began to be built in 1575 in the Ming Dynasty and led by General Cai Kai. It was said that it took many years to finish the construction. When Minister Cai Kai back to the city to report to the emperor, some courtiers has told to the emperor that the minister Cai Kai spend too much money and the quality of the wall is very bad. Angry emperor ordered to dispatch Minister Cai immediately.

Great Wall was built on the tops of the mountains

Sometime later, the emperor sent sent a trusted aid to check Cai’s Wall. That person reported that the wall is very robust and built elaborately. Regretting was too hasty caused the death of General Cai, emperor built a tomb and monument to commemorate the loyal general. Emperor also wrote the word "Jin Tang" (this word means "Golden Road", is the strong, enduring) and ordered carving up a large rock at the foot of fortress. Dunhuang, the island in the middle of arid desert in China

By     No comments:
Located on the Silk Road, Dunhuang is the most important trade point between the eastern and western. China is pouring billions of dollars to revive this famous road.

Crescent Lake have an estimated age of 2,000 years, most has been ravaged by desertification. For centuries, this place is likened to a lake in the desert, or the lovely mouth of a beautiful woman because having semicircle. Although surrounded it is an arid desert ranges, there is a land where trees still grow normally and have an extremely cool lake.

Every year, this place still occurs phenomena such as sunny, rain, and season change as in other lands; only wide in more than 1km2 and located in the desert with temperatures over 40, this place is setting a big question mark for the scientists .

Besides oasis, there is huge sandy grassland called Ming Sa in here meaning "singing sands". It is rumored that the singing of the sand in the Gobi Desert is to haunt traders on the Silk Road.

Crescent Lake, a small lake in the heart of the desert

Gobi is Asia's largest desert. Chinese people often call it Endless Sea. Being an oasis town, Dunhuang is a lonely green island between the arid sand place. However, the Gobi desert has a very varied terrain, depending on the climate of each region.

Legend has it that there was a monk named Le Zun. One night, in the year 366 AD, the monk saw thousands of Buddha shining in the sky Ming Sa. Then, he made a temple with golden Buddha statue at the cliff on the river. Later, another monk named Fa Liang visited Dunhuang and created the 2nd cave. Within a few decades, 70 caves were carved in Mogao.

Experiencing 1,000 years, the artists have created more than 700 temples in caves with 45,000 m2 frescoes. This is a World Heritage Site protected by UNESCO and attracts a lot of tourists. The progress on the architecture of the Mogao caves reflects influences from China and the western region. Many caves were renovated in later dynasties.

For the monks Mogao, the visual art has an important role in the propagation of religious doctrine. To create these frescoes, one must pour 3 layers of plaster onto a flat wall to paint.

Nowadays, there are around 2,415 statues surviving in Dunhuang, many statues are restored from the Qing Dynasty. In the previous dynasties, the back of the statue is mounted on the wall, head part is made separately, then put on the body. Till the Tang Dynasty, the statues were completely separated.

In the Tang Dynasty, there are two huge Buddha statues built here, reflecting the strength and idolatry of the empire at that time.

Caves from the Tang Dynasty are considered the pinnacle of Mogao. Unlike the statues from the previous dynasties, the separate statue of this Dynasty can be admired from all sides. Brilliant color and crisp detail from costumes of statues also reflect a prosperous life of the monks at that time.

By     No comments:
Five mountain sword sects alliance in "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer" is adapted from the real Five great mountains in Taoism (5 sacred mountain) in China, including: Mount Hua Sect, Mount Song Sect, Mount Tai Sect, (North) Mount Heng Sect and (South) Mount Heng Sect.

Mount Hua Sect
Hua Shan appears repeatedly in the novels of Jin Yong, and often referred with Mount Hua swordsmanship. Jin Yong has turned Hua Shan into a powerful place in the world of martial Central Highlands when describe it as a mountain to the masters of Kung Fu come to compete, win the throne "King of Kung fu".

If being the followers of kung fu novels Jin Yong, you will not be surprised with the times "comment on Hua Shan swordsmanship" East deviant Huang Yaoshi, West poison Ouyang Feng, South Emperor Duan Zhixing, Northern Beggar Hong Qigong and Wang Chongyang in the "The Legend of Condor Heroes".

Or the competing on martial and then making amity between Ouyang Feng with Hong Qigong under the snow in The Return of the Condor Heroes.

Hua Shan is located on the outskirt of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, with five main mountains, in which, the highest mountain (2154.9 m) is South Peak (in the south), also known as Layan.

A scene in Hua Shan at early morning

The whole mountain is formed by granite, with upright shape and wide spread like a flower should be named Hua Shan (Flower Mountain). The main top of Mount Hua is up to 2.083m high.

Maybe due to the rugged terrain, Hua Shan is martial competing place to select the King of Zhongyuan, because only the profound martial art people can overcome these craggy mountains to stand on the the summit.

In The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, the Mount Hua Sect is located in Hua Shan Mountain, known in the martial world with 2 skills: the Hoa Son and Tu Ha. It is also place that is full of memories of Linghu Chong with Yue Lingshan.

When visiting this mountain, you can watch firsthand the words "Hua Shan swordsmanship comment” by Jin Yong penning.

Visiting Hua Shan, in the clouds and mountains like the haven, visitors will get lost in the magical swordplay world. Therefore, Hua Shan has become the destination attracting visitors from near and far, especially the "big fan" of Jin Yong.

Mount Tai Sect
Mount Tai sect in the novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer has headquarter in Tai Mountain. Although this is not "renowned sect", neither has much reputation in the martial world nor mentioned much by Jin Yong in this novel, but Mount Tai in real life is a famous tourist destination throughout the world.

With a total area of more than 420 km2, located in Shandong Province, north of Tai'an, Taishan Mountain includes many majestic mountains, including the Jade Emperor at the height of 1.545m above the sea. So, the ancient called this mountain is "pillar propping sky".

Travelling China to discover the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang

By     No comments:
Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the world. Today we want to share a story with you about a journey that we began in 2015. At that time, we had lived in northeast China for 3 years; we decided to carry a trip across Asia within three months; a part of the plan includes a long trip from Beijing to Xi'an to visit the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor. Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang is one of the greatest archaeological finds in the world, has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1987.

We can honestly say that in all the years of his traveling, Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang still is one of the most impressive sights we've ever set foot. This is also one of the first world heritage sites that I visit. So for me, it is quite meaningful place.

Most of the pictures were taken in November 2015; the day that we visited the terracotta warriors is on a winter day. Perhaps the chilly air made the experience becoming a special impression on me. It is simply the feeling cannot be described in words.

Thousands of baked clay warriors

Our journey started in Xi'an, moving on a local small bus to the archaeological site. This is exactly a rickety old local bus, not the kind of popular bus tour that tourists usually go. We were the only foreigners on the bus and our companions are mostly Chinese workers, who stared at us with curious bearing. Of course, with such an old car, I do not expect it will operate smoothly. The car gets a flat tire and we had to take about an hour to wait for the driver solving this problem. Fortunately, there are several roadside shops for us to rest.

The Tomb is located on north Ly Son Mountain, Shaanxi Province, China. It was discovered in 1974, when a farmer living near the city Xi'an digs a well and found a clay head. At that time, archaeologists began the excavation and discovered this monumental tomb.

The Terracotta Warriors is definitely one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century. Qin Shi Huang became emperor of China in 246 BC and he took 11 years to complete the construction his tomb. According to the documents I have read, this place is used to store valuable treasure in terms of history and economics. He ordered the constructing this huge terracotta army to accompany him into the afterlife. There are many studies say that the sculptures of ancient Greece were the inspiration for Qin Shihuang to construct the Terracotta army. This has not been explained or recognized; perhaps that is just a hypothesis

Given what we know, this excavation was conducted from the 70s, but until now, scientists just have been dug about 8000 artifacts, because they face many problems such as funding, security issues and preserving antiques.

A museum has been built near the area excavated in 1975, exhibiting the unearthed antiquities for visitors to admire. On the day we went, there were many visitors came to visit, everyone is curious about the life of a king of old, what he wears, what food he eat and much more. The museum has an area with an area of around 16,300 m2; showcasing more than 7,000 soldiers stood guard with horses, cars and their weapons of war. This place is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1987.

We also took the time to wander around the Emperor's tomb. Although there is not much to see, everything was sorted pretty neat, we only were stood on the mound and just looked what has been excavated under our feet.

People can find information about the types of artifacts displayed here in the museum information room. We decided to buy some souvenirs here to commemorate our trip; there were quite few stores open on that day, most employees hissed in the wind chill.

The special thing here is that there are thousands of soldiers are molded earthenware, but all the faces of the soldiers are completely different, from facial expressions to the eyelids, ears, etc. Up to now, the scientists have yet to figure out the reason and manual to create such flawless terracotta statues.

Tips for booking a safety cheap flight before traveling

By     No comments:
To have a comfortable and safe trip, the choosing the flights is extremely important. However, to choose the safety flights is not easy and not everyone can do that. Today's article will guide you some experience to choose the cheap flights and absolute safety.

Before preparing for an oversea travel, the first thing you need to do is choose a reasonable time to your visiting time coincides with the festivals, events; it is the most important thing. Next is to learn about the high-quality airline, always having safe flights.

We cannot predict anything, but based on my experience of tour guidance during nearly 7 years, a few following tips will help your flights being safer.

Selection of high quality airlines

The airlines that were rated as high quality are often very carefully in the selection of pilots and experienced attendants, first of all to protect the reputation and their brand in the flights, followed by these people have enough experience to handle emergencies in the sky. In addition, their planes are very new and have higher safety.

Booking ticket before departure date

The tickets booked before usually have better price compared to that of urgent flights. However, not everyone knows one thing that, all flights usually vacant the front row; the purpose of this is not to reduce tonnage for flights or for attendants to take a rest; it is for the national heads cannot using personal aircraft. This case does not happen often, but sometimes booking a ticket at the last minutes usually cost a lot better.

The airlines having fixed schedules

With the prestigious airlines, they always put your work first; when you had book a ticket to fly at pre-determined dates, they will serve you even if that flight only has one single customer is you. This thing is infrequent in the private airlines and small businesses probably because they often think of profits and take you into another closest flight.

This is the experience that you need to pay attention to choose for yourself the best and safest flights. This is not all, but somewhat helps you feel peace of mind on your trip in future, wish you happy holidays..
